Because Digimon Xros Wars doesn't rely on levels like Rookie, Champion, and Ultimate, we will go by posts. This doesn't mean you can start with a Mega Level Digimon though. You'll be limited in the beginning to only In-Training to Champion level digimon.
Digixros / Evolution For Digixros you will be required to have as many digimon as the number of your rank (X2 = 2 digimon, X3 = 3, etc.). To gain more digimon you must do missions, participating in events, or by defeating a digimon in battle. You can also receive Digimon from someone else's Xros Loader BUT you must their permission. And remember this; EACH DIGIMON COUNTS AS A SEPARATE CHARACTER BUT THE POSTS ARE EQUAL TO YOUR ACCOUNT'S POSTS. You may have more digimon than your rank but can only xros as many as your rank permits. - You are X2 Rank
- You have 4 Digimon
- You can xros all four but only two at a time.
- I.e. You have Sukamon, Damemon, Numamon, and Chuumon
- You can xros to have two xrosed digimon out like SukamonxDamemon=Tsuwamon and NumamonxChuumon=KingNumemon and have both of those out at once.
Your main Xros must have a base, which is the digimon you begin with. From there they remain the base of nearly all of your xrosses and are considered your strongest and will determine the advantage in battles.
The + next to the rank refers to any extra digimon added to the xros that doesn't change the overall appearance of your digimon, but really just equips them with more attacks or more weaponry such as Shoutmon X4K or Shoutmon X5B. After 2000 posts you're open to any and all numbers of Digixros.
IF you decide to join in with other people, you can create larger xrosses through the GXM or Great Xros Method. For the GXM, the sum of your your xrosses will be your limit. For example, someone with X4 and someone with X3 can xros seven digimon together.
XROSSES MUST MAKE SOME SENSE. BUT you are free to use pre-existing digimon, although you MAY make your own custom digimon. Example: Angemon x Magnamon = MagnaAngemon or Tyrannomon x Hagurumon = MetalTyrannomon.
You're Xroses don't have to change form. They can just gain strength from xrosing but they do count as a different digimon so you may give them abilities of the digimon that they Xrosed with.
You are allowed to have two digimon permanantly Xrosed so that your Xroses become more powerful and so that you can travel with less Digimon on hand. For example, you have Haguramon and Biyomon Xrosed to Mailbirdramon, and Agumon and Veemon Xrosed to Greymon. If you'd like to be more like Kiriha, you may keep them like this. This DOES count towards your Xroses so if you're X3 and you want to Xros Mailbirdramon and Greymon who are already Xrosed you will have to wait until you get the X4 rank.
Remember; X1 + X1 = X2. X2 + X2 = X4. X2 + X1 = X3, etc.
